Positioning and Messaging
Make it easier for the right buyer to understand why the offer matters, when it is the right choice, and why it is credible. Positioning is a strategic choice; copy is its expression.
Find the defensible point of view
Start with the target ICP, urgent job, current alternatives (including doing nothing), desired outcome, and proof. Identify the category or frame that helps buyers evaluate the offer without obscuring its difference. A differentiation claim must connect to meaningful buyer value and evidence the company can substantiate.
Avoid generic superlatives, feature inventories, and claims of uniqueness without a comparison and proof. Preserve the buyer's language when it comes from verified research, calls, reviews, or search behavior; label all other phrasing as a hypothesis to test.
Build the hierarchy
Develop one positioning statement for internal alignment, then a message architecture for external use: core promise, three to five value pillars, proof points, audience-specific adaptations, objection responses, and approved claims boundaries. Match each pillar to a buyer concern and outcome rather than a product module.
Test messages with representative buyers or behavioral signals. Track comprehension, relevance, credibility, differentiation, and conversion—not preference in isolation.
Deliverable
Return the positioning statement, category framing, alternatives, message hierarchy, proof inventory, audience variants, and a short test plan. Clearly distinguish approved facts, customer language, and messages that still require validation. Do not publish or alter live copy without approval.
