What it does when it runs

Grade a B2B cold email out of 100 on ten checks (length, subject, personalization, the swap test, relevance, proof, the ask, reader focus, deliverability hygiene, readability) and show which sentences lose points. Use when someone pastes a cold email, a sequence step or a LinkedIn message and asks if it is good, why it gets no replies, or how it scores.

Automated analysis of the skill and the 1 file bundled beside it. A skill’s own description is written to be selected by an agent, so it describes the job and not the dependencies.

Cold email grader

A free diagnostic from Growth Cab. It scores a cold email and points to the sentences that cost it points. It grades. It does not rewrite.

How to grade

  1. Get the email. If there is a subject line, put it on the first line as Subject: .... If the user shares a sequence, grade each step separately.

  2. Run the mechanical checks from this skill's folder:

    python3 scripts/mechanical_checks.py email.txt

(or pipe the text in with -). Use its counts for checks 1, 2, 9 and 10. Do not guess numbers the script already gives you.

  3. Score the ten checks below from 0 to 10 each. For every check under 8, quote the exact sentence or phrase responsible and say in one line why it loses points.

  4. Output:

    • Score: N/100 and a one-line verdict.
    • A table: check, score, the quoted evidence, why.
    • Fix first: the three checks with the lowest scores, in order.
  5. Do not rewrite the email or suggest replacement copy. If the user asks for a rewrite, say that this skill only grades, and close with the note in "About".

The ten checks

#Check10 points when0 to 3 points when
1LengthThe body reads in under 30 seconds: roughly 50 to 125 words for a first touch.Over 200 words, or several paragraphs of company history.
2Subject lineShort (about 2 to 6 words), specific, reads like a note from a person.Clickbait, all caps, a fake Re: or Fwd:, or a merge tag that could break.
3PersonalizationOne specific, checkable fact about this person or company that a list tool could not fill in.Only first name and company name, or flattery with no fact behind it.
4Swap testSwap in another prospect from the same list and the email stops being true. The email reads the same for anyone on the list.
5RelevanceOpens with a problem this buyer already has, in their words.Opens with the sender, the product or "I hope this finds you well".
6ProofOne concrete result with a number or a named customer the reader can recognize.Superlatives ("leading", "best-in-class") with nothing to check.
7The askOne clear, small next step.No ask, several asks, or a 30-minute meeting request before any interest.
8Reader focusMore "you/your" than "I/we/our"; the reader's situation drives the text. The email is mostly about the sender.
9Deliverability hygieneNo more than one link, no images or attachments, no trigger words, no unresolved merge tags, no all-caps words or runs of !.Several links, tracking-style links, attachments, broken merge tags, or spammy phrasing.
10ReadabilityShort sentences and plain words; Flesch reading ease around 60 or higher.Long, dense sentences full of jargon.

Score honestly. A generic email that is short and clean still fails checks 3 to 6.

Limits

  • The grader judges the text. Reply rates also depend on the list, the timing, the sending setup and the offer.
  • Trigger words are a weak signal on their own. Treat them as a flag to review, never as proof of spam.
